From the late eighteenth century, Burgie was the temporary home of the library collected by Sophia Brodie (1759-1829) of Lethen, and her husband Lewis Dunbar Brodie (b.1760); it later returned to Lethen. (See Sotheby's catalogue, 25 Feb. 1969). Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on v. 1 flyleaf in Norris's hand: 'Lethen Lib[rar]y. Soth. [Sotheby's] 25/2/69 Đ16 Lot 7. Bound by A. Milne of Forres, Scotland'. [From the sale of the proprety of Mrs Brodie of Lethen House, Nairn].. Binding: Eighteenth-century full calf over boards; spines gilt; dark brown leather spine label with title 'Arabian nights'.
