Provenance: manuscript inscription on title page: "Coll: Paris Soc Jesu" [i.e. Jesuit Collège de Clermont, Paris]. Ink-stamp on title page (partially over the manuscript inscription): 'Collegium Ludovici Magni' [i.e. Lycée Louis-le-Grand, Paris; the Collège de Clermont was renamed in honour of Louis XIV in 1682]. Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf; sewn on five supports; double gilt fillet border and inner panel, the panel with gilt floral cornerpiece stamps; gilt chain roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled spine with same floral tool as on covers and red leather title label; red bookblock edges; nonpareil pattern marbled endpapers.
