Provenance: Bookplate: John Myddelton Esqr. of Chirk Castle Denbighshire [i.e. John Myddelton (1685-1747)] (the plate of Robert Myddelton of Chirk Castle with inscription altered); Jacobean armorial, after 1733. Franks 21457. This has been pasted over an earlier bookplate, probably that of John's brother, Robert (1678-1733). manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf: "- nec gravem / Peleidae stomachum oedere nescii. / Horat libs ode VI Periphrastic[o]s / Iliadem designat. / Nec cursus duplicis per mare Ulyssei, / Id est Odysseam in quibus duplicis / Ulyssis cursus discribit. Ibidem". manuscript inscription on title page (partially cropped): "Tobias Dunelm".. Binding: Seventeenth-century blind-panelled calf binding; gilt roll on board edges; blind fillets and rolls on spine, with remnants of gilt title label. Red sprinkled edges. Printed waste (16th century) used as pastedowns.
