Summary
Bibliographic description
295, [7] leaves ; 16mo. Running number: 2212. Quires O (leaves 105-112) and P (leaves 113-120) mis-bound in wrong order. Provenance: manuscript former shelfmark on front pastedown: "G.6.38". Manuscript book/inventory number on front fly-leaf: "(123)". Manuscript inscriptions on front endpaper: one in Latin, crossed-through and illegible, and "Petrus de Berchem" [possibly Peter van Berchem (d. 1596?), son of Jacob van Berchem and Anna van Ruyven, captain in the army of Count Louis of Nassau -- DBNL]. Manuscript inscription at head of title page: "E bibliotheca Joh: Huyssey" [possibly a member of the Hussey family of Doddington Hall in Lincolnshire. Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) married Elizabeth Hussey (1687 or 8-1724), daughter and co-heir of Sir Thomas Hussey, which would explain the presence of the book in Ellys's library. Or possibly Sir John Huyssey, lord of Catterdyke (Kattendijke), in the Netherlands a lord of Zeeland, knighted by King James I in 1616, so maybe Jan Huyssens (1566-1634) or his son Johannes Huyssen (d. 1653)]. Manuscript notes in sixteenth-century hand at foot of leaves 105, 112-113, 120. Binding: sixteenth-century full calf. Thin thick thin blind fillet border and central panel, the central panel with gilt foliate cornerpiece stamps and blind foliate centrepiece stamp. Single blind fillet on board edges. Blind fillets and gilt foliate stamps on spine. All edges gilt. Manuscript waste lines spine.
