Loosely inserted: 1. engraved plate of Hamburg (1799) 2. engraved plate of Peter the Great, from Gentlemans magazine (1783). 3. 2 newspaper clippings from The Times (1843 and 1846). 4. clippings from dealer's catalogues, unrelated to provenance. Provenance: Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: Norris's hand: Shalstone Manor, Bucks. 17/5 '44Lot 923.Đ5. Extra illustrated copy." In another hand: "Purefoy Shalstone". [i.e. Shalstone Manor, Buckinghamshire, home of Purefoy family].. Binding: Nineteenth-century full calf over boards; blind tools and gilt fillets to form a border; blind and gilt spine tools; black leather spine labels with title: James's Journal of a tour. Germany, Sweden, Russia and Poland.; sewn on five raised bands.
