Summary
Bibliographic description
275, [5] p. ; 8vo. Running number: 7126. Water and damp-staining throughout. Pages 217-220 (leaves O5-6) are in their correct position but were once mis-bound at the end (as in John Mitchell's note); pencil inscription at the foot of p. 216: "Quae hic desunt, habentur in fine libri". Presumably the book has been repaired since the note was written and the pages returned to their correct position. Provenance: manuscript number on front pastedown: "2676". Manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf: "M. p. 217-220 transposed, & put at the end of the book" [i.e. catalogue code and collation note, written by John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript price[?] in pencil on front fly-leaf: "7-6". Manuscript code symbol in pencil on front fly-leaf. Manuscript underscoring of text and some marginal markings in Flaminio's Carminum. Binding: sixteenth or seventeenth-century full plain limp vellum; sewn onto three alum-tawed leather sewing supports; front cover with manuscript inscription (title?) within decorative border in black ink of flourishes and cross-hatching: "Lusus q[ui]nq[ue] viroru[m] Illustriu[m]", with a further part (date?) scratched out from the binding; yapp fore-edges; two pairs of holes in fore-edge of covers for ties (missing); spine cracked, partially missing. Manuscript inscription on bottom edge of textblock: "[rev. D] Lusus q[ui]nq[ue] viro[rum] ill...". Strips of manuscript vellum waste (fifteenth-century?) line the spine.
