[i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: sixteenth-century German blind-stamped and rolled alum-tawed pigskin over pasteboards, dated 1551; sewn onto four raised bands; both covers have a framework of thin thick thin fillets; outer frame has repeated palmette tools at head and foot, and floral tools along either side; middle frame has heads-in-medallions roll (Hercules, Septimius Severus, Fridricus Dux Saxoniae and one other, all very indistinct) alternating with coat of arms and other heraldic devices (eagle, crossed swords, lion) of the Electorate of Saxony; central framework with initials A G D and date 1551 on upper cover (floral and fleuron stamps only on lower cover), floral and fleuron stamps around the sides, and a centre panel with three columns of six repeated foliate stamps (lower cover foliate stamps only, upper cover with additional floral stamps). Spine with blind fillets at head and foot, and along raised bands. Spine with large letters written in black ink in the five panels: A NTI QVI TA S. Upper pasteboard consists of printed sheets (black letter, in German, sixteenth-century?) pasted together, visible underneath peeling front pastedown.
