Provenance: manuscript inscription at foot of title page (partially cropped): "Hoc est primum H. Stephaniae typographiae specimen. M. Maittaire" [i.e. "This is the first book printed by H. Estienne", written by Michael Maittaire (1667-1747), Huguenot bibliographer, who was a close friend of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: seventeenth-century[?] full limp vellum; sewn onto six leather supports; stubs of two pairs of white linen ties; spine cracked, partially missing; remnants of gilt title label on spine.
