Provenance: eighteenth-century manuscript inscription on title page: "5 1M. 1702 - Tōn Bridgēsiou" (the last two words transliterated from the Greek "των Βριδγησιου") [i.e. purchase code, date and name of John Bridges (1666-1724), antiquarian and lawyer; Bridges' library was sold in London, 7 Feb. 1725/26]. Lot 354 in Bridges sale catalogue 'Bibliothecae Bridgesianae catalogus' (London, 1725 [i.e. 1726]). Library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire; Ellys bought a number of books at the Bridges library sale in 1726. Manuscript capital letter written in ink at head of first front fly-leaf: "S" (found in a number of Blickling's books but unknown as to what it means). Twentieth-century pencil code on front fly-leaf: "B17". Sixteenth or seventeenth-century manuscript inscription in Greek at foot of title page: "zōn[?] ehin...iou[?]" (transliterated from the original "ζων ε'ιν...ιου"[?]). Binding: eighteenth-century full calf; sewn on five supports; double gilt fillet border; gilt roll on board edges; gold-tooled spine; brown leather label with gilt title on spine; gilt edges; comb and swirl pattern marbled endpapers. Pencil inscription in the hand of Cecil Clarabut (the National Trust's first Libraries Adviser) on verso of front free endpaper: "Repaired at Cambridge 1955".
