Provenance: Armorial bookplate (between 1733 and 1754): Philip Lord Hardwicke Baron of Hardwicke in ye County of Gloucester [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754]. Binding: Seventeenth-century sprinkled calf over boards, remains of gilt spine tooling, brown spine label, double blind fillet on covers, red and brown sprinkled edges. Old water damage to final pages of text; flyleaves are undamaged, suggesting it may pre-date the binding.
