With a black-bordered letter laid in from Eliza Conybeare to Sir Charles (probably Charles Philips) Trevelyan accepting an invitation to luncheon and providing details of the authorship of 'Rothley Temple'.. Provenance: manuscript inscription on half-title: 'C Macaulay From the author' and a manuscript note beneath: 'General Colin Macaulay received it from Mrs Gisborne who wrote it.' Twentieth-century pictorial armorial bookplate, a re-working of an earlier William Bell Scott pictorial Trevelyan bookplate (Franks 29799) of Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan (1797-1879), lettered: Charles & Mary Trevelyan [i.e. Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan (1870-1958), & Mary Katharine, (m.1904).] Arms: Trevelyan impaling Bell. Not in Franks.. Binding: Nineteenth-century full tree calf; rolled to form border and on board edges; rebacked; marbled endpapers.
