Provenance: two manuscript inscriptions at head of title page: the earlier[?] one has been obliterated with black ink, the later[?] one reads "Sù[...] Cornelij Sladi Anno 1611 scriptùm Aùgùsto vigessimo 8" [this is possibly Cornelius Slade (1599-1678), who in 1628 succeeded his father Matthew as rector of the Latin School in Amsterdam; his library was sold in Amsterdam in 1689]. Interleaved blank leaves contain manuscript notes in seventeenth-century hand relating to the text on the facing printed pages. With manuscript marginal annotations and notes in same seventeenth-century hand on some printed pages. Binding: nineteenth-century half-bound blind-tooled calf, with nonpareil pattern marbled paper over boards; sewn on five sewing supports; blind-tooled spine at head and foot, with panels of fillets, roll patterns and approximations of old binders' stamps; gilt author, title, vol. number, date and contents stamped on spine; red sprinked bookblock edges; fore-edge of interleaved leaves untrimmed; nonpareil pattern marbed endpapers; nineteenth-century fly-leaves.
