Provenance: manuscript inscription at foot of title page: "The author is very exact, and was at immense pains. M Maittaire", written by Michael Maittaire (1667-1747), Huguenot bibliographer who was a friend of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742), the owner of the book. With manuscript manicules on pp. 2-7, 32, 34, 44-45, and occasional pencil crosses and other markings in red pencil or crayon in the margins. Manuscript addition to text in late sixteenth-century or seventeenth-century hand on leaf ²B1r (p. 9 of pt. 2): "Ogier Ferrier his Astron. discours. of ye Iudgment of Natiuities trans. by tho. Kelway gent. Prin. for rich. Watkins. 1593. 4o.". Surviving portion of original sixteenth-century rear fly-leaf with a manuscript list of books "Divinity in folio" written in a late sixteenth-century or a seventeenth-century hand. Binding: late sixteenth-century or seventeenth-century unlined limp parchment; sewn onto four sewing supports; two pairs of holes in fore-edges of covers for ties (missing); rebacked in plain parchment; original bookblock removed for repair, resewn, with the addition of two modern fly-leaves at front and repaired original fly-leaves at rear, and reattached to limp covers.
