Armorial centrepiece stamp of the Collège du Plessis-Sorbonne, arms quarterly (1) two lions passant, (2) three ermine, (3) three mullets of six points pierced, (4) escarboucle[?]; cardinal's hat with five rows of tassels (fifteen tassels); duke's coronet; large crest between shield and coronet of St. Martin of Tours on horseback cutting his cloak in two with a sword to share with a beggar on a crutch; shield hangs from anchor (Admiral of France), with the cross of the Order of the Holy Spirit (croix du Saint-Esprit); ermine lined mantle; arms (three chevrons) of Cardinal Richelieu are just visible on the reverse of the mantle. Gilt roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled spine with five raised bands and six panels, 'PS' monogram of the Collège du Plessis-Sorbonne in five panels and gilt title on brown goatskin label in one panel. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers.
