Manuscript initials on front pastedown: [1] "W.G."; [2] "C.P.". Manuscript inscription on title page: "Bibliothecae Colbertinae" [i.e. from the library of the great French bibliophile Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Marquis de Seignelay (1619-1683), Chief Minister to Louis XIV; written in the hand of his librarian, Étienne Baluze (1630-1718). Colbert’s library was dispersed at a sale in Paris, 24 May-21 October 1728, and at two sales in London (23 April 1729 and 17 November 1735)]. Manuscript inscription below privilege on title page, illegible. Errata corrected throughout by Mitchell(?), with errata list crossed out and note at head of leaf "Errata omnia emendant cata me". Binding: late seventeenth-/early eighteenth-century full sprinkled brown calf (cracked) with double blind fillet border and blind roll floriate pattern adjacent to spine. Gilt roll pattern on board edges. Five raised bands; gilt-tooled spine, label wanting. Enbands with front beads. Three supports laced in; pastedown with guard and endleaf at both ends. Densely sprinkled red edges.
