Summary
Etching, coloured, Le Bal Pare (Dress Ball) (after Augustin de Saint Aubin) by Antoine-Jean Duclos (Paris 1742 - Paris 1785). French 18th century ball, a title around a family crest below; 'Le Bal Pare a monsieur de Villemorieu Flia/Par son tres humble et tres obeissant serviteur Chereau fila'. A ballroom lit with six chandeliers and girandoles is full of elegantly dressed people, three couples dancing in the centre. Carved, painted gesso frame with a bow carved on the top, a band of beading and rope pattern around the outside. Framed to plate impression. Not glazed.
