Summary
A rectangular blue leather case for a portrait miniature of Sir George Crewe, 8th Bt. (1795 – 1844) as a child, attributed to Anne Mee (London c.1760 – Hammersmith 1851). The case has two hinged, folding sides and is lined with purple velvet. It has an oval shaped recess in the central section where the framed portrait is housed and this section can be detached from the case using, a small piece of ribbon, so as to be a free standing portrait. The case has two brass hinges on each side and brass hooks at the top and bottom with which it can be shut and secured.
Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT in 1985 with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
