Summary
Longcase clock by Thomas Tompion, brass and silvered dial with bolt and shutter action signed ‘Tho. Thompion Londini fecit’, cherub spandrels, the oyster veneered case with marquetry panel decoration, spiral twist columns to the rising hood surmounted by shallow swan-neck pediment with central angel motif.26 cm square dial (10.25 inches). Double wheat ear engraving to the edges. Cherub spandrels. Matted centre with date aperture. No pin holes in date ring to facilitate moving the date. Silvered chapter ring 23.5 cm diameter engraved dial edge, double track minute ring. Arabic five-minute markings Roman numeral hour markings. “Three arrows” half hour markings. Quarter hour ring around the centre. Separate seconds chapter ring below twelve with five second Arabic numerals Original blue steel seconds hand (chamfered) Original blue steel hour and minute hands. Six latched pillars to the movement. External power spring for the bolt and shutter maintaining power.
