Pair of late-eighteenth-century cutlery urns on pedestals, possibly designed by Robert Adam and possibly made by Ince and Mayhew, the pedestals associated and altered.
Provenance
Originally commissioned by the 1st Marquess of Lansdowne for Bowood House, Wiltshire; by descent to Lady Margaret Nairne, who married Lieutenant-Colonel Ririd Myddelton of Chirk Castle in 1931; sold by the Myddelton family at auction through Christie's, on the premises, 21 June 2004, lots 101 and 102; purchased by the National Trust at auction at Christie's, New York, 14 April 2011, lot 403.
