Summary
A gold heart-shaped memorial locket, c. 1830, commemorating Henrietta Frances Crewe who died aged 8 weeks in 1829. The locket, which probably belonged to Henrietta's mother, Jane, Lady Crewe (1799-1880), is finely textured in yellow gold and applied with green gold floral sprays, set on one side with a diamond and turquoise set flowerhead and on the other side with a ruby flower. Turquoise and ruby end stones. Heart-shaped inner locket compartment containing hair and bearing the inscription 'HFHC Obt. Sept. 3rd 1829'.
Provenance
Calke Abbey and contents transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT in 1985 with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
