Summary
Early Victorian woven hair mourning bracelet, c. 1840. The gold clasp with oval locket compartment containing plaited hair in a cartouche-shaped scrolling gold frame set with four agate cabochons at the cardinal points with matching gold scrolling finials.
Provenance
Calke Abbey and contents transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
Marks and inscriptions
Head of Medusa, said to be very valuable given to my mother by my father and left to Isabel Jane Crewe. Hair I believe our mother. M.A.Crewe (inscribed note)
