Summary
A set of six inlaid oak and ebonised display tables, made by Thomas Marriot, Ticknall, Derbyshire in 1859. Each with a raised case with hinged lid and glass panels to all sides, the stands with dog tooth inlaid edge and egg and dart moulding with a floral scroll carved frieze and raised on chamfered tapered legs with ebonised collars.
Full description
The six display cases were made by Thomas Marriot of Ticknall, the estate joiner, in 1859. They were commissioned by Sir John Harpur Crewe 9th Bt (1824-86) to display a collection of shells, fossils and polished stones together with varied curiosities and one with minerals. Provenance
Calke Abbey and contents transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT in 1985 with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
