Summary
Print, engraving, Church of St John the Baptist, Onehouse, Suffolk by Henry Davy (1793-1865). One of a set of 4 lithographs by H. Davy of houses in Suffolk. 'Onehouse Church, Suffolk.' Drawn and published by Davy, Ipswich 1860. The church has a round tower at the west end of a south porch attached to the nave. A hedge with trees and a wooden gate are in the foreground. The rector is the Rev. Thomas Massingberd Pyke. St John the Baptist, is one of 38 existing round-tower churches in Suffolk and was close to the Hall. The church is a beautiful small flint, stone and brick structure, with a round tower containing two bells, close by the ancient site of Onehouse Hall. There was a church in Saxon times, as recorded in the Domesday Book, but the present church is thought to have started its life during the great Norman build and rebuild period following the Conquest. Archaeologists now date the earliest part of the building as of the 12th century. The round tower of the parish church has been restored.
