Summary
Watercolour on paper, Youth and Age by William Mulready the elder, RA (Ennis 1786 - London 1863). The scene is set in front of a cottage with a lattice window. On the left an old woman sits in a chair, on the right a younger woman holds her baby. Two children play on the floor. In a giltwood and gesso frame. The corners and outer edge moulded with leaves and flowers.
Provenance
Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
