Summary
A painting of the Harpur Crewe coat of arms with explanation of the quarterings. Circa 1812. The shield is divided into 20 squares, each with a different motif. Main colours red, blue, and black. Sheild surrounded by a blue and white cloak, a helmet on top. Above, a boar and a crown. Beneath the shield a white lion and a black eagle hold up a scroll with the Harpur Crewe motto and the names of all the quarterings. In a gilt wood and gesso frame with a scrolled leaf frieze around the inner edge (damaged).
Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT in 1985 with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
