Summary
Print, coloured aquatint, 'Rowton', the winner of Great St. Leger stakes, at Doncaster 1829 (after John E. Ferneley) by Charles Turner, RA (Woodstock 1773 - London 1857). 'Rowton', a mounted brown horse in a landscape, facing on the left a smaller horse and man, dismounted, in a black top hat. He is descibed as the trainer Mr J.Scott. By C. Turner after J.Ferneley. Inscription reads; 'The winner of Great St. Leger stakes, at Doncaster 1829, rode by Wm. Scott, 97 subscribers, 19 started, by Oiseau out of Katherine (late perspective) by Woful, her dam, Landscape by Rubens. The property of the Hon E. Petre'. Published by R. Ackermann, London. Blood line in pencil. Print has been cut.
