Print, coloured aquatint, The Colonel, the winner of the Great St Leger Stakes at Doncaster, 1828 (after John Frederick Herring the elder) by Richard Gilson Reeve (London 1803 – 1889). 'The Colonel' a mounted brown horse with two other mounted horses in the background. By R.G. Reeve after J.F. Herring. Inscription reads; 'Winner of the Great St leger Stakes at Doncaster, 1828, 80 subscribers, 19 started. By Whisker out of Mr Lady's dam by Delpini Grandma Tipple Cider by King Fergus. The property of the Hon. E. Petre'. Dedicated by J.F. Herring and S. [and] J. Fuller, London. Published Jan 15th 1829. A pencil inscription also gives a list of the blood line and 'Sir George Crewe' is written at the bottom of the print. Wide margin.
