Summary
Print, coloured aquatint, A horse named 'Doctor Syntax' by James Pollard (Islington 1792 - Chelsea 1867). An early coloured aquatint called 'Doctor Syntax' by James Pollard, published 1822 by R. Pollard and Son, London. The brown race-horse stands with a race course behind. Owner, jockey and another man in front of a building on the left-hand side. An inscription underneath reads, 'was foaled in 1811 got by Paynator his Dam by Beningborough [and] Co. In 1814 he won the Maiden Plate at Preston, a plate and a sweepstakes at Morpeth and two sweepstakes at Richmond...In 1821 he won the gold cup at Preston and the gold cup and Dundas stakes at Richmond'. About an inch margin.
