Summary
Watercolour on paper, An Unknown Lady in a Blue Robe by Augustus Jules Bouvier (London 1827 – London 1881), 1865. A watercolour painting of a lady in a blue robe with dark hair. She wears a crown of feathers. She stands in a red dress with a blue robe draped over the top and carries under her right arm, a basket of fruit. The background is a yellow wall with a decorative fountain and small animals and birds painted on it. A leopard skin rug is on the floor. In a giltwood and gesso frame with laurel leaf decoration in relief.
Provenance
Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
