Summary
Large cane and wicker hamper on two wooden stretchers. Front of stretcher marked; PLATERS MAKERS B'HAM. On front of basket in black paint; C.H.S.S. / 10. On right and left sides in red paint, large Red Cross symbol. On lower front left side, white paper label attached to wood secured by studs to basket reads; BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY / 14, GROSVENOR CRESCENT S.W.1. Bottom corners of basket strengthened with leather patches. Rope handles at sides. Leather strap and buckles to hold lid closed; leather loop holds lid to basket. Interior and lid lined with oilcloth. On the inside of lid along with a logo; MANUFACTURED BY / JOHN J. PLATER & SONS / 261/2/3/3, BRADFORD STREET / BIRMINGHAM. Evidence of woodworm.
