Summary
Letter from Northwick to the Rector Impropriate of the rectory at Harrow, dated Jan 3rd 1820.
Full description
Northwick P. Jan: 3rd 1820 The Rector Impropriate (I believe he is) of the Rectory of Harrow, will have much pleasure in acceding to Mrs. Edwards’s wishes in directing his Bailiff to prostrate the offending Tree in the Church Yard, in which The Lord of the Manor of H. (as such) as no concern. I had rather a cold Journey to this place on Friday last, & we have since had a fall of Snow – which does not much add to the Picturesque effects of the scenery – or indeed allowed me to contemplate more of it than can be conveniently discerned from My Drawing-Room Window. I have used the liberty of directing My Gardener to send you two Pineapples. I do not know whether they will have preserved their flavours so late in the Season, or whether you think them worthy to perform so long a Journey, but I at least thought they might prove acceptable to your Young People to whom, as to all others dear to you I most sincerely wish a most prosperous Year & (in the Spanish phrase) a Thousand succeeding Years of Happiness. I am, with much sincerity, Dear Madam, Your faithful Servant Northwick.
Provenance
Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
