Summary
Letter reading from top right-hand corner; Auchintoul/Huntly N.B./ August 30th 1886. Dear Miss Patteson, Many thanks for Your kind note and enclosure. I like to think that you have a Sketch of mine, though I do not know which was elected –Something I think, in the Y.O. Schute(?) – I should fancy An “Isle of Palms” wd have been more suggestive both to you And me – but perhaps there were none such in the Portfolio your friend saw – but after all I never touched any Of the Isles wh. Are consecrated to you. But there is a Wonderful family likeness among them all. I am so much struck by your seal. If, as I hope, we do Some day meet at Cuckfield, you will explain its story to Me. I have just been in communication with one who must, I think, be your personal friend – though to me I grieve To say, only known through the medium of pen and ink, Namely Miss Yonge. I have just been writing a sketch of the New Zealand eruption for This Monthly Packet. But those Volcanic troubles pale before those of poor Greece. Truly “Earthquakes in diverse places”. With kind regards, I Remain, Very truly yours, Constance F. Gordon Cumming.
