At centre top of page; a small sepia photograph of a bewhiskered head of a gentleman posed and looking into the camera. Below this photograph are attached two hand-written letters, one above the other. Top letter is a handwritten extract the top in pencil; Made. Malibreu(?) Sunday May 17 1829 My Dear Sir George Smart I shall be very happy to sing on Friday morning at the [A----] [--] [-------] the song ‘a la [--------] m’ [----------]’ and I should like to sing the duet of [Faur---] ‘Fieso Incomptro(?)’ instead of 'Elbena(?) le [-----]’ as I am not at home I do not remember if” (here the extract ends). Underneath this is letter is on two sides of cream paper. May 4th 1828 My dear Sir George I got up this morning/with a severe hoarseness(?) which will prevent me having the pleasure of singing tonight for the Fund. Pray make my excuse to the committee of management. I am so tired out with rehearsing my new opera at Drury Lane that I have not a note left in my voice. Believe me Dr Sir Most Sincerely yours M[W(?)
