Caption
This body would have been mounted on a flat bed undercarriage with four wheels. It is displayed with eleven replica horsehair plumes. The original undercarriage and wheels no longer exist and a replacement is needed.
Summary
Coffin Carrier, body only, built in the early to mid-1800's. Marked 'A and J. Down, Tavistock'. With black painted canvas top, black velvet valance and eleven black horse hair plumes added by The National Trust in the late 1990's. 4 original plumes stored in the carrier.
