Summary
One of eight carved and painted oak plaques depicting different coats of arms which together formed the back panel of a settle. The central shield stands on a background of plain linen fold carving supported by three staves with gold trefoil oak leaf terminals. The flat plain shield is painted in gold with leaf stems, a crown and the date in Gothic script reading; Anno / Domini / MDCCCXCIV (1894). The reverse has a quatrefoil carving with central shield bearing the painted gold motto; Omne tulit punctum / Qui miscuit / Utile dulci +. The top edge is punched and marked in pencil; V / Right end Back. The bottom edge is punched; IIV. The left edge is punched; IIIV. The right edge is punched; IV. Inside the fitted drawer (NT27032.3).
