Summary
One of eight carved and painted oak plaques depicting different coats of arms which together formed the back panel of a settle. The central shield stands on a background of white painted linen fold carving supported by three green staves with gold trefoil oak leaf terminals. The flat silver painted shield, divided vertically in two, shows on the left, three black battle axes with rounded black castellated border and on the right in the top quarter a diagonal red band with three gold pears either side of which on a silver ground is a black bird and decorative black symbols. The lower three-quarters divided into three has two white red-crested egrets on a gold ground with decorative black symbols in the top section. Gold trefoils each side of a gold salter on a blue ground in the mid section and a single white red-crested egret on a gold ground with decorative black symbols in the lower section. The top edge is punched; II. Inside the fitted drawer (NT27032.3).
