Summary
Ink and wash architectural drawing, Plan of Basement Floor, Basildon for James Morrison Esq. MP. Signed for the Office of the architect John Buonarotti Papworth (1775-1847), March 1840. Hand-drawn black and white drawing of the basement floor at Basildon Park, Berkshire. Later additions, apparently relating to drainage have been made by a different hand. The drawing is Numbered 'No. 2' which seems to link to other drawings from the Office of John Buonarotti Papworth for Basildon which are held at The RIBA Library, London (PB1336/PAP[259])
Provenance
Commissioned by James Morrison (1789-1857) from the architect John Buonarotti Papworth after his purchase of Basildon Park, Berkshire. Retained with the house during subsequent sales to Edward, 1st Baron Illife and George Ferdinando. Purchased with Basildon Park and Estate by Langton, 2nd Baron Iliffe in 1952 and transferred with the property to the National Trust in 1978.
