Bronze with black varnish on a wooden base with painted marble effect, Andiron, incorporating Winged Male and Female Satyrs, Putti and Harpies and Grotesque Masks .Attributed to Niccolo Roccataglia (b.Genoa, fl. Venice 1593 – Genoa after 1636). Green marble effect stand by Paul Levi, 1965.
Provenance
Soranzo family, Venice; John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792); bought by Brinsley Ford from Gerald Kerin 24 January1965 (£200) and by descent to Augustine Ford. Accepted under the Cultural Gifts Scheme by HM Government from Augustine Ford and allocated to the National Trust for Osterley, 2023.
