Summary
Pen and wash drawing on paper, View of a Villa, with Steps leading up to a Terrace, manner of Hubert Robert (Paris 1733 - Paris 1808). A flight of steps leads up to the terrace of an imaginary Italianate villa or palazzo. A figure carrying a bunch of foliage ascends the stairs. Statues are mounted on the balustrade and on the balcony of the piano nobile, and sculpted busts occupy niches above the pedimented windows. The façade of the building has rusticated arched openings on the ground floor and a Doric columned portico. In the foreground at right three female figures gather at the side of a stone water trough with a lion-head spout.
