Summary
One of a pair of white marble chimneypiece scrolling pedestals carved with acanthus leaves and anthemion and hung with vine in full relief. On square bases.white marble, Carved by William Grinsell Nicholl (1796 - Acton 1871).from designs by John Buonarotti Papworth (1775-1847), around 1840-1842. Originally installed in the Octagon Room, Basildon Park, and removed by Lord and Lady Iliffe as part of their renovations to the house c.1955.
Provenance
Commissioned for the Octagon Room, Basildon Park by James Morrison (1789-1857). Purchased with Basildon Park and estate by Langton, 2nd Baron Illiffe, 1952.
