Bronze cast of the hands of Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm (1834 -1890). Bronze cast after the plaster version taken from life by Boehm in 1874 (see NT 263813).
Provenance
The minutes for the meeting of the Carlyle House Management Committee for 25 February 1930 record the following gift: 'from Mr. Alexander Carlyle, two bronze casts of the hands of Thomas Carlyle'.
