Summary
Watercolour on paper, Emperor Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain (1500-1558) by Mrs Tom Taylor, framed; given to Carlyle by Mrs Tom Taylor who copied it from the original at 'The Grange'. NB The painting from which it is copied is now attributed to Seissenegger, court painter to Charles V (1532) and is in the collection of the Marquess of Northampton and hangs in the Great Hall at Castle Ashby (1976). lot 215, Sotheby's, 14 June 1932
