Summary
An ebonized display case, English, circa 1896, glazed to the top and four sides, the rear long side with two glass panels, hinged to the lower edge, the plain frieze above four turned legs, applied with a roundel to the sides at the top. The interior with a white enamel label to the rear side inscribed 'Drew & Cadman/Glass-Showcase-Makers/High Holborn/London'.
Provenance
The minutes of a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Carlyle's House Memorial Trust held on Wednesday, the 28th September 1896, lists under payments which have been reported and approved 'Drew & Cadman: Show Cases £27:10:0'.It is most likely that this refers to this display case and other (NT 263535) located within the attic study at Cheyne Row. The National Trust took over the management of Carlyle's House in 1936.
