Summary
A pair of gilt-metal mounted ebonized pedestals, circa 1840-70, the molded top above a gilt-metal band of acanthus leaves, swags of leaves and berries, rosettes, supported by a paneled, square tapering column, the recesses with edged with gilt-metal bands, the waisted socle on a square plinth base further mounted with gilt-metal. Two recessed sides of the columns decorated with gilt-metal masks above trailing garlands of leaves and berries.
Provenance
Not associated with the Carlyles during their time at Cheyne Row. Bequeathed to the house by Carew Wallace, former National Trust Chief Agent with responsibility for Carlyle's House, circa 2000.
