Summary
Wooden box on platform with four circular feet. Hinged lid with plain curved handle on each end. Each side of main box has two central hinges enabling front to be opened back by 90 degrees to display contents. The doors when shut are secured to each other by two hooks and eyes and each door is secured to the lid by a hook and eye. Remains of green sealing wax on lid and left door. Handwritten paper label on left door reads, Wenlock / Chapel Vault. Paper label on back, printed in red, reads, WITH CARE / VII / S. Inside bottom front inset label reads, T.R.T. AWKER SONS / MADRAS. All linings very mouldy. Base is lined with dark green felt. Rest of box lined with blue silk. Inside lid is padded with blue silk and printed in gold, DIAMOND / MOUNTERS / J R Jawker and Sons. Described by Sotheby's as a mahogany jewellery case.
