Summary
Printed illustration for Tom Kitten's Painting Book (published June 1917), coloured in watercolour by Beatrix Potter. This picture was originally published in the 1911 first edition of Peter Rabbit's Painting Book; in 1917 Peter Rabbit's Painting Book was split and 4 pairs of new drawings added to give the second edition of Peter Rabbit's Painting Book and Tom Kitten's Painting Book (see Leslie Linder, A History of the Writings). This is a printed and hand coloured version of the original ink drawing HIL.RP.393. Tom Kitten, Moppet and Mittens sit on a wall and look down at Jemima Puddle-Duck. There is an inscription in pencil by Beatrix Potter, 'Walls rather dirty colour'.
