Summary
Sketchbook with a brown linen cover, inscribed 'Rye; Keswick; Hill Top Farm'. This book is probably dated c1907. It contains drawings in pencil, ink and watercolour by Beatrix Potter, including landscape, animal and interior subjects at Rye, possibly Winchelsea, Keswick and Hill Top. There are many blank pages towards the back of the book. The drawings of Rye and Winchelsea may be background work for The Tale of the Faithful Dove (see Linder History of the Writings). See also HIL.RD.81.1 - HIL.RD.81.55, the individual drawings within the sketchbook, listed separately. See also sketchbooks listed in the published catalogue of the Victoria and Albert Museum Beatrix Potter Collection - reference numbers 1094-1101, especially 1099 and 1100 which include Rye, Sawrey and Keswick scenes.
