Summary
Preliminary pencil sketches of a tradesman's cart belonging to Timothy Askew, who appears as Timothy Baker in The Tale of Ginger and Pickles. The sketches - 3 rough sketches of a cart and pony, and one of a human figure - are drawn on the front of an envelope addressed to Miss Potter, Hill Top Farm and post-marked 16 August 1909. This is probably a preliminary study for HIL.RD.17 which is a more finished drawing and for HIL.RP.246, the published illustration which appears in the book. This is unmounted. See also HIL.RD.17, another preliminary drawing; HIL.RP.246, the published line illustration; HIL.R.351, a photograph of Timothy Askew and his cart c1915.
