Summary
Letter, with envelope, from Beatrix Potter to Joseph Moscrop, shepherd to Beatrix Potter at Troutbeck Park Farm from 1926. Dated 5 December 1940, the letter concerns George Walker ill in hospital with a perforated ulcer; scarcity of doctors due to the war; tupping of herdwicks and Wensleydale sheep at Troutbeck Park; test for Johnes disease in cattle; prices for cattle at Carlisle and Penrith sales; sheep sales and prices at Broughton and Ambleside; hay, straw and turnip crops; reference to prospect of food shortages due to German U-boat blockade of Britain. Part of a collection of letters, Beatrix Potter's Lake District Letters to Joseph Moscrop, edited and transcribed by Judy Taylor and published (1988) as 'Beatrix Potter's Farming Friendship, Lake District Letters to Joseph Moscrop 1926-1943'.
