Summary
Photograph of the gate to Hill Top vegetable garden, taken by Beatrix Potter. An inscription on the reverse in Beatrix's hand states 'The houses were Queen Anne - this gate was not quite so old in my opinion - Elizabethan would mean like the Tudor iron work at Hampton Court, with scrolls and roses in thin iron? I doubt if you will get a Tudor gate - either ancient or modern - but you might get an 18th century pattern, quite sufficiently in keeping with the surroundings.'
